Young man killed two at school – shot dead by police

At least three people have been killed after an attack at a school in the Swedish city of Trollhättan.

One of those who has been confirmed dead is the attacker. The other two is a teacher and a minor.

Several others are now being treated in hospital.

It was just after 10 A.M Thursday the police got an alarm from the school ”Kronan” in Trollhättan.

A masked man, later identified as a 21-year old male, was attacking teachers and students at the school.

The man was carrying several knife like weapon, one of which has been described as a sword.

Male teacher killed

When the police arrived on the scene they found a male teacher dead just inside the doors to the school.

Another male teacher was found wounded as well as two boys, aged 11 and 15. They are now being treated in hospital.

When the police entered the school they were attacked by the masked man.

He was then shot by the police.

– Two shots was fired. One hit its target and disarmed the man, said police spokesperson Thomas Fuxborg.

The attacker was being treated at the hospital, but died in the afternoon.

Later in the afternoon, police struck against a residence building in Trollhättan.

”Thought it was a joke”

About 400 kids are studying at the school. One of the students told the Swedish network SVT about how they reacted when the swordsman attacked.

– When we first saw him we thought it was a joke. He was wearing a mask and black clothes and was carrying a long sword. Students wanted to take pictures with him, said Laith, 14, to the network.

When the news about the attack broke, Sweden's prime minister, Stefan Löfven, immediately cancelled his appointments for the day and went to Trollhättan.

Skolverket, Sweden's National Agency for Education, said that attacks like these are very uncommon in Sweden.
