Avicii’s father Klas Bergling made first public appearance since the tragic death of the superstar.

Accepting an award on his son’s behalf at the Swedish Rockbjörnen gala in Stockholm he thanked everyone who had voted for Avicii and for all tributes that has been made to honour his son.

”It’s been almost incomprehensible and it has warmed our hearts, all of the family, during this hard time, so again a big thank you to everyone” said he from the stage in Stockholm.

At his first public appearence since the tragic death of his son, Tim ”Avicii” Bergling’s father Klas Bergling accepted an award on behalf of his son Wednesday night in Stockholm.

The award, at Swedish daily newspaper Aftonbladet’s music award gala Rockbjörnen, was handed to Klas Bergling by Swedish minister of culture and sports, former tv personality Alice Bah Kuhnke.

Klas Bergling accepted the award together with Avicii’s composer partner Sandro Cavazza.

In a heartfelt acceptance speach Avicii’s father expressed his gratitude towards the fans who had voted for Avicii to reciev the award.

””I am happy to have been given the opportunity to be here tonight to say thank you for this amazing award that you have rewarded Tim and Sandro and to everyone of you who have voted for ’Without you’ an amazing song”, said Avicii’s father.

He continued: ”But also, and perhaps formost to say thank you for all and every amazing tribute you have given Tim and his music. From all his fans and others, from churches, schools, festivals and so many more. It’s been almost incomprehensible and it has warmed our hearts, all of the family, during this hard time, so again a big thank you to everyone.”

Song of the year

Avicii recieved the Rockbjörnen award for best Swedish song of the year for his hit single ”Without You”.

The Rockbjörnen awards are voted for by fans all over Sweden and this year over a million votes were cast.

The Swedish superstar DJ Avicii, famous for hits like ”Wake me up”, ”Waiting for love” and ”Hey brother”, was found dead in Oman in April at the age of 28.

Avicii’s family has previously commented on his death in an open letter saying: ”He really struggled with thoughts about Meaning, Life, Happiness. He could not go on any longer. He wanted to find peace.”

The Rockbjörnen Award is Sweden’s biggest and longest running consecutive music awards gala, with awards being handed out every year since 1979.

Voted by the fans

Rockbjörnen is the fans’ own award where nominees aswell as the winners are voted for by fans.

The Rockbjörnen prices are awarded for live performances aswell as Swedish and international song of the year and a special price for the most engaged fan groups.

Since its first year Rockbjörnen has been presented by Aftonbladet, Sweden’s leading daily newspaper and the biggest newssite in Scandinavia, and the nominational and voting process go through the Aftonbladet website.
